On Israel

Who owns the land?

One frankly is at a genuine loss to understand the Israelis. They are, after all, a liberal-democratic state, in the European-style, sustained by traces of religious and racial nationalism.
Yet they continue to behave like children, rather than the semi-super-humans of Zionist lore.

The world sees Israel's actions as raw aggression because the world is populated by peoples who no longer believe in the right of conquest.

Israel no longer resembles Rhodesia, a modernist Sparta, based on militarized agriculturalism.

It's military is Americanized, and its culture suffers from the Americanist influence as much as any other country on the globe.

Yet the Israelis still cling to the idea of the right of conquest. They could easily buy the land and transport the Palestinians elsewhere.

“Israel can now safely be called the Bernie Madoff of countries, at it has lied to the world about its intentions, stolen Palestinian lands continuously since 1948, and managed to do all this with American tax payer’s money. Every American taxpayer, starting with George W. Bush, has Palestinian blood on their hands thanks to the butchers that run Israel.”

Taki writes from a neo-liberal perspective, from whence the 20th century values of commerce and trade are drawn.

What many anti-Zionists don't understand is that even hard-line Zionists like Netanyahu are too deeply conservative to do anything at all about the situation.

Which brings us to the current situation in which both sides believe themselves to be backed into the same corner.

Obscuring the problem through layers of democratic hyperbole will never get either side or their adherents anywhere.

"Yet they continue to behave like children, rather than the semi-super-humans of Zionist lore. " not to mention the evil geniuses of anti-semitic lore.

This really jumped out at me when I saw the street-party in NYC celebrating the Gaza incursion. Dancing and singing, they reminded me of a college football pep rally. Children, exactly.

It seems that they really believe their own propaganda, and for the first time I'm actually starting to fear for the Israeli people, who are instructed to be "as wise as serpents". Wouldn't it be smarter to at least pretend to be magnanimous in victory; iron hand/velvet glove kind of thing. Don't they have any doubts about American power and support, and America's track record of turning on it's allies?

Who owns the land? The Greek Orthodox Church is Israel's largest land owner - including owning the land their Knesset sits on - or should I say squats on?
